Meta sets a new standard for wearable tech

META

Meta, Facebook’s parent company, has introduced AI-powered upgrades to its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses.

Now available for early access users in the US and Canada, the update includes features like real-time language translation and seamless interactions with Meta’s chatbot.

With the new firmware (version 11), users can engage in ongoing conversations with Meta AI without repeatedly saying, “Hey, Meta.”

The chatbot also supports follow-up questions and effortless topic changes, making interactions more intuitive.

KEY FEATURES:

  • Continuous Conversations: Chat with Meta AI naturally, without needing to repeat wake words.

  • Live Video Assistance: Receive real-time insights from Meta AI about your surroundings.

  • Language Translation: Translate Spanish, French, or Italian into English, with audio playback through the glasses and transcripts sent to your phone.

  • Music Recognition: Simply say, “Hey, Meta, what’s this song?” to identify tracks instantly.

Wearable glasses for instant language translation

Meta’s newly enhanced smart glasses, announced during September’s Connect event, showcase the company’s leadership in wearable AI technology.

Competing with Google and OpenAI, Meta is pushing to integrate real-time AI capabilities into everyday devices like smart glasses.

A key highlight is Orion, Meta’s next-generation AR glasses, developed over five years to seamlessly merge digital and real-world experiences.

Meta emphasizes that staying connected to technology shouldn’t mean disconnecting from the physical world.

Currently, Orion is being tested by Meta employees and a select group of users.

While Meta leads with real-time AI features on wearables, competitors like Google are still developing similar advancements.

Just imagine using your glasses to nail karaoke lyrics—I know I’d love that!
